ISS is a premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of new and emerging surface and space technologies. This year, we would like to invite students to present new and emerging work in interactive surfaces and spaces for feedback from leaders in industry and academia.

Please feel free to submit your work about any topic of interest to the community. Works could for example be on topics like:

  • Architectural concepts and emerging trends
  • Museum and art installation trends
  • Interaction paradigms around large surfaces (tangibles, pens+touch, etc.)
  • New and emerging body and space sensing technologies
  • Overview of social protocols, presence, territoriality, proxemics
  • Evaluation methods for surface applications
  • Multi-touch interaction with mobile devices
  • Natural User Interfaces (NUI) on surfaces
  • ... and other exciting topics!

We are looking for students to present 1/2 hour long presentations on early work, a panel of experts in the field will provide feedback on ideas on the day before the conference starts (i.e., November 6, 2016). Studio participants will receive an early registration code. We request a short paper (up to 4-7 pages) in the 2014 SIGCHI Extended Abstracts publication format ( (Note that this format utilizes the "Lastname, F.M." author-name reference style, not the more recent "Firstname M. Lastname" convention.) Accepted proposals will be available in the ISS companion proceedings.

Please submit your studio proposals using the ISS Precision Conference submission system (
